Oh sweet little chalkboard

Today we are preparing to go on a little trip down to North Carolina to visit my mom and I am super excited! I haven't seen my mom in like a year!!!! Too long!!! So I am busy getting things together. While I am packing I am waiting on a phone call from the Radiology dept so we can schedule an MRI for Gabe. The MRI is to see if he has Chiari Malformation and if he does he will have surgery to correct the problem. We have been dealing with Gabe's health issues since he was 4 months old and I am so ready for him to be normal and healthy!!! So I will be posting a quick little diy project I did a while back. I did this project back before this blog of course so again no before pic. I promise I will get better at this!! LOL! Anyway. I decided I wanted a little chalkboard for the kitchen so I could write down things we needed and little notes, and what not. I wanted to use stuff I had around the house so I didn't have to spend any money! Always a plus right?! I had an old frame, leftover spray paints, and leftover chalkboard paint from another project so I had everything I needed.  I roughed up the frame with sandpaper and spray painted it with Valspars Mediterranean Sea then sprayed Ace Hardware Ivory gloss over that. Then I lightly roughed it up again so the blue would show through just a little. I then took the glass from the frame roughed it up with sandpaper and then sprayed it with 2 coats of chalkboard paint and let it dry. Then I took chalk and rubbed it all over the chalkboard surface and then wiped clean.  Then It was ready!!

Turned out great for something that was FREE I think!! I promise I will get better at taking pics and explaining the whole process. I hope you enjoyed it. I don't know if I will be able post anything while I am on my little vacay so it might be a few days!!! Have a good 4th of July!!

Spoons, Forks and, Butterknives OH MY!!

Well My second DIY project came from the lovely Spunky Junky @  http://spunkyjunky.blogspot.com/ . She made her own set of spoon, fork, and knife artwork for her kitchen. Go check it out and her other projects  because she ROCKS!!

I don't have any before pics, but I started with 3 frames I found from different Goodwills and Salvation Armys  in my area, a bag of silverware from another Salvation Army for $1.99, some fabric I found at Hobby Lobby, and a can of primer, Krylon in Ivory gloss  and a hot glue gun. I ended up with these and I love them oh so much!!!!

So on to the next project....
What will I get into next?? There is no telling with me!!!

My first DIY project

I somehow found myself in the DIY world and decided it would be my new hobby. So I thought I would start out with a chair. Why a chair, well I am not sure but everyone needs a chair, right? Well I found a cute chair at my local Salvation Army it wasn't in the best shape but still usable and with a price tag of $2.99 how could I say no.

So then I had to think of what I actually wanted to do with is. That was harder than I thought. for a indecisive person like me!!! Well I wanted something chic, yet funky and somewhat sophisticated. I have always LOVED the houndstooth print so I knew I wanted to find that for the seat. I found an awesome fabric at Hobby Lobby for a decent price, of course I used the 40% coupon!! Then I had to think of what I wanted to do with the wood. I chose to go with Ivory in gloss. I bought Krylon but then found Ace hardware's brand of spray paint matched exactly. So now I use that for anything I want to paint white. So here she is in all her glory!!

I was going to keep the criss cross detail on the back but my 2 precious boys decided they didn't like it!! LOL!! Long story!! So I had to come up with something quick and I like how it turned out!!! She is so sweet, isn't she?

Very first blog

Well I have been reading a ton of people's blogs for months now and I decided that might be fun to do my own. Now I don't promise if will be good but I will try ;). I will just post about what is going on in my life, diy decorating, crafts, fashion, and whatever else I come up with because thats how I roll.
